Description

The Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province of west central Iran in the Zagros Mountains is home to the nomadic Bakhtiar tribe, a Luri-speaking people. The tribe has evolved a distinctive culture. An important industry is weaving, and the tribe produces a distinctive, colorfully vibrant, high-quality carpet made from lanolin-rich wools and natural dyes. Traditional Bakhtiar carpets are geometric, but the influence of weaving traditions from city centers such as Isfahan resulted in production of floral carpets that are distinctive in quality, style and design. Many are palatial in size.
