Description

Nahavand lies in western Iran, southwest of the town of Hamadan in Hamadan Province. The area is famous for high-quality carpet production. Nahavand carpets are predominantly geometrical. Designs often use a central medallion with leaves, flowers, birds and animals filling the background. A favorite motif is the vase, with flowers and trees flowing from the vase. The carpets often show irregularities that make each piece unique. Colors are bold, typically with red, dark blue or black backgrounds and yellow, light blue, cream and rose tones in the motifs. The fine lamb’s wool pile makes these carpets soft and durable.
