Description

The village of Sarouk in west central Iran is famed for its brightly colored, high quality carpets. Rich colors of reds, blues, burnt orange, ivory and champagne woven into both curvilinear and geometric designs typify Sarouk carpets. High quality wool and a thick pile make Sarouks extremely durable. The carpets were so popular in America in the early 1900s that specific designs and colors were used for the American market. Traditional designs include central medallions with arabesques, vine scrolls, Herati and boteh.
